Optimal shot peening residual stress profile for fatigue

چکیده

Shot peening (SP) is frequently used as a palliative measure against metal fatigue in many engineering components. The performance of this surface treatment depends on different factors including the material, shape and loading conditions component, well process parameters. Fatigue improvement due to SP great extent upon in-depth compressive residual stress profile produced specimen. In work, we study optimum for terms behaviour. For task, assume that qualitatively similar by metals. Based generic profile, analyse two simple, but noteworthy, cases: plain notch fatigue. analysis conducted “fatigue damage tolerance design” framework, which certain initial defect assumed be present component under study.

Numerical and Experimental Evaluation of Residual Stress and Fatigue Strength of Steel CK35 in Shot Peening Process

In shot peening process the work piece surface is struck by a large number of balls and compressive residual stress is generated on the surface. So, mechanical properties such as fatigue strength, stress corrosion resistance, smooth shape and ... will improve. In this paper, the balls with a speed of 100 to 200 m/s were struck on the steel samples and fatigue strength compared with specimens wi...

Side Effects of Shot Peening on Fatigue Crack Initiation Life

Shot peening beneficial effects on fatigue life of mechanical components are well known. However, there are some reports in the literature that indicate inappropriate shot peening parameters tend to reduce the fatigue life. It is therefore, the purpose of this study to find a logical quantitative justification for these observations. Using finite element method, a dynamic elastic-plastic simula...

Effect of Residual Stresses on Fatigue Strength of Severely Surface Deformed Steels by Shot Peening

The compressive stress distribution below the specimen surface of severely surface deformed steels by shot peening was investigated by using laboratory X-rays and high-energy X-rays from a synchrotron radiation source, SPring-8 in the Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute. Medium carbon steel plates were heat treated in two different conditions. The Vickers hardness of material-A and B...

An Analytical Model for Shot-Peening Induced Residual Stresses

To improve the fatigue life of metallic components, especially in aerospace industry, shot peening is widely used. There is a demand for the advancement of numerical algorithms and methodologies for the estimation of residual stresses due to shot peening. This paper describes an analytical model to simulate the shot peening process and to estimate the residual stress field in the surface layer....

Influence of Residual Stress on Fatigue Life of Hot Forged and Shot Blasted Steel Components

Hot forging is a common manufacturing process for the production of large quantities of engineering components. Residual stresses are developed in forged components as a result of various aspects of the manufacturing process, including subsequent cooling, and heat treatment. Residual stresses can significantly affect the deformation and fatigue failure of materials. Hot forged EN15R steel bars ...
